Format

One of the most important rules of IPL 2023 is the format. The tournament will feature 10 teams that will play a total of 14 matches each . The top four teams will qualify for the playoffs, which include Qualifier 1, Eliminator, Qualifier 2, and the Final.

Points System

Points system and net run rate are also crucial factors in the IPL. Each team will receive 2 points for a win and 1 point for a tie or no result. In case of a tie, a super over will be played to determine the winner. If two or more teams have the same number of points, the team with the better net run rate will advance to the playoffs.

Player Retention

Player retention is another important aspect of the IPL. Each team can retain up to four players before the auction, and can use their right-to-match (RTM) cards to retain up to three more players. The salary cap for each team is INR 90 crore, which includes the salaries of all players, support staff, and other expenses.

Overseas players also play a crucial role in the IPL. Each team can have a maximum of four overseas players in their playing XI. In case of injury, a team can field an overseas replacement player, subject to IPL's approval.

Powerplay

Powerplay and Free Hit are other important rules of IPL 2023. The first six overs of each innings are mandatory powerplay overs, and only two fielders are allowed outside the 30-yard circle. In case of a no-ball, the next delivery will be a free hit, meaning that the batsman cannot be dismissed on that delivery except for a run-out.

The first six overs of each innings are mandatory powerplay overs, with only two fielders allowed outside the 30-yard circle.  In overs 7 to 15, only four fielders are allowed outside the 30-yard circle, while in overs 16 to 20, five fielders can be placed outside the circle.

If a bowler delivers a no-ball, the next delivery will be a free hit, meaning that the batsman cannot be dismissed on that delivery except for a run-out.

These are the main rules of IPL 2023. Understanding these rules will help you enjoy the Tournament So far.

Player auctions:

Before the start of each season, there is an auction where teams can bid for players. Each team has a budget of INR 90 crore to spend on players, and they must use this budget to build a balanced squad. The auction is a crucial part of the IPL, as it allows teams to build a competitive team that can challenge for the title.

Super over:

In case of a tie, a super over is played to determine the winner. Each team gets one over to bat, and the team with the most runs at the end of the over wins the match. If the super over is also tied, then the team with the most boundaries in the match (including the super over) wins.

Umpires' decision:

Umpires' decisions are final in the IPL, and teams cannot challenge them. However, teams can use the Decision Review System (DRS) to challenge decisions related to lbw, caught behind, and run-out.

Code of conduct:

Players are expected to adhere to a strict code of conduct in the IPL. Any player who breaches this code can be fined or suspended. The code of conduct covers issues such as on-field behavior, sledging, and use of offensive language.

These are some additional details on the rules of IPL 2023. By understanding these rules, you can better appreciate the strategies and tactics employed by teams in this exciting cricket tournament.

The format, points system, player retention, salary cap, overseas players, powerplay, and free hit are some of the most important rules to keep in mind.
